Geriatric Care Q&A

What is geriatric care?

Geriatric care is internal medicine (adult care) focusing on the physical, mental, and social needs of people who are aging. Pulse Primary Care has extensive experience in addressing the unique needs of seniors, and the practice is here to promote your health in the way best suited for you.

What does geriatric care include?

Geriatric care equals complete care at Pulse Primary Care. Some of the different aspects of this multidimensional approach are:

Physicals

Physicals are usually once a year. They’re wellness exams to monitor your health.

Acute care

Acute care refers to the diagnosis and treatment of injury and illness. It covers the flu, infections, sprains, bruises, and other problems.

Telehealth

Some medical care happens in the three Pulse Primary Care offices, but in many cases, follow-ups, monitoring, and other types of care are available through telehealth. Geriatric specialists understand that many seniors find it more convenient to get medical care from home, and that’s why they feel telehealth access is so important.

Preventive care

Preventive care helps you stay healthy and gives you tools to prevent diseases that often affect seniors. It encompasses everything from screenings to weight management and lifestyle changes.

Chronic care management (CCM)

CCM is a Medicare program for seniors with two or more chronic conditions. Nearly any physical or mental condition qualifies for inclusion if it’s expected to last a year or more. CCM covers common ailments, including diabetes, hypertension, arthritis, high cholesterol, and gout, and gives you tools to manage your health through a dedicated chronic care manager.

Lab testing

Pulse Primary Care has a certified on-site lab that makes blood and urine tests convenient, something very few medical practices offer. Thanks to the on-site lab, you get results right away.

When do I need to start geriatric care?

There’s no specific age to transition from general primary care to geriatrics-focused primary care. Age 65 is the traditional age of officially entering seniorhood and also the age at which you can enroll in Medicare. So, many patients start geriatric care at that time.

At Pulse Primary Care, your medical care adapts to your needs, no matter what stage of life you’re in. So, you might need geriatrics-centered care sooner or later.
